| George Siems HOMETOWN: La Marque, TX (born in Texas City) OCCUPATION: Olefin Chemicals Division Safety Coordinator (15+ yrs) INSTRUMENTS: Mostly acoustic rhythm (acoustic electric), but have started some electric rhythm; I enjoy fingerpicking, too. I can play saxophone, but am not as fond of it as I used to be. BACKGROUND: I was ALWAYS around music growing up. It is a custom and expectation in the Siems family that you play something. I messed around with the guitar throughout high school and played in several small bands. It was not unusual for a group to assemble in our living room after Sunday evening church. Nothing like the sound of a standup bass, fiddle, guitars, mandolin, and piano to end a day of worship. I played for myself for a few more years and then stopped completely post-college. I really did not get serious with it again until my sons took an interest. That's all I needed. Five+ years ago I started playing with SilverLining. It has been a great trip ever since. PREFERENCES: I like the best of nearly all music types. I do struggle with rap, though! My favorite performers? Beach Boys, John Denver, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Cat Stevens, Eagles, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, etc. I enjoy a lot of current Christian rock as well as the old favorites. I really enjoy some of the "country" performers like Keith Urban, Martina McBride... Alison Krause and Union Station are amazing. OTHER GROUPS: Also play in ModernRelics. I "sing" baritone in our church choir, although I really don't sing hardly at all in SilverLining. It’s a coordination thing! |
