| Michael Salmon HOMETOWN: Longview, TX (born in west Texas; grew up in Monroe, LA) OCCUPATION: Mechanical Engineer, Pressure Vessel Engineering (25+ yrs) INSTRUMENTS: Bass guitar (and rarely acoustic guitar) BACKGROUND: ...piano lessons as a kid ...sang in youth and adult choirs at church ...got my first guitar in junior high school but never took lessons ...sang & played a little in college. ...started picking with Phil at noontime around 1992, and the Noonday Acoustic Emissions club grew from there. ...started trying to play bass for our noon sessions around 1997. PREFERENCES: I prefer new alternative rock, blues rock, and christian rock (and occasionally classic rock, bluegrass, or progressive country ...like Lucinda Williams). Lately I'm listening to ......Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, Chevelle, Paramore, 311, Incubus, Seether, Flyleaf, Pillar, David Crowder Band, Radiohead, Switchfoot, Three Days Grace, AudioSlave, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Third Day, Jimmy Eat World, Good Charlotte, and lots lots more. OTHER GROUPS: I'll play and/or sing whenever I can, with just about anyone who's interested -- at church or work or home. ( ...Lately it's been mostly with ModernRelics, and also with Tod & Jason at church. =) THOUGHTS: The first reason I wanted to play guitar was to sing along. But now I really enjoy playing and singing with other folks. And I really like "performing" songs with lyrics I can be proud of as a Christian and a dad. |
