| James P. ( Phil ) Soape -- pronounced soap HOMETOWN: Born, Raised and Live in Carthage, Texas OCCUPATION: Civil Designer, Engineering & Services Dept (30 yrs) INSTRUMENTS: Rhythm Guitar (harmonica when no one is around) BACKGROUND: Bought first guitar at 11 yrs. old. Sang in school and church choirs. Gave up guitar by 15, but never really tried. Restarted at 40. Grew up listening to all types of music. My Mother was a very active musician and singer in the church. Influenced by TV, AM radio, & 8 track tapes, ranging from Perry Como to Grand Funk Railroad. Sang and played in a freebie country band in my early 40's. PREFERENCES / LISTENING TO: Mostly I prefer Country music, although it is currently lacking in quality. I enjoy listening to some blues, bluegrass, christain country & christain rock. I seem to like singer-songwriters best, like early Garth Brooks or any Alan Jackson song. George Strait will always be a favorite. I am drawn to the story as much as the music. I'm always looking for good music, no matter what genre. OTHER GROUPS: None other than "Silver Lining" now. THOUGHTS: Music has always been a big part of my life. My mother's activity in the church influenced my early years. My Dad liked the old country & western stuff. I always wanted to perform but never had the guts untill I got past 40. I thank the Lord for these men who enjoy sharing their talents, & for M. Salmon for talking me into playing and singing at lunch. That's where this adventure started. |
