| Who's in "the band"? <-- (Pick a name at the left to read more about an individual.) We all have "day jobs" at a chemical plant in Longview, Texas. In the early 90's, we started picking and singing during lunch hour -- for "stress relief". Over the years, different players would come and go. Some were just getting started; others brought a lifetime of experience. But on good days or bad, our noonday sessions have always been (and still are) the most fun. We are not a typical band: We all like different types of music -- Country, Rock, Blues, Bluegrass, and Gospel -- new songs and the classics. And we almost never practice all together at the same time. It's sorta like "...whenever two or more are gathered together..." we just bring it and have fun. So we're not quite like a regular band. We hadn't given much thought to "performing". Then in 2000 we were asked to play at a couple of events outside the plant. Before long we're playing at community United Way luncheons, the company apprentice banquets, Christmas parties, picnics, charity benefits and celebrations. After our first "show" it was clear we needed a name ... something other than "The <company name> Guitar Band". Following some tough times, it seemed one real bright spot for us was getting to make music -- sort of like a Silver Lining. (And the company PR man liked that name better than Acoustic Emissions.) Today, we still welcome new opportunities to bring a little joy through music -- encouraging each other and you too, we hope. But as devoted family men, we are also selective on the gigs we accept. (We still practice mostly at noon hour.) ... So, you keep looking for a Silver Lining. We already found one: "Live music ... for the fun of it." |
